Batavia Society of Artists 2011 Spring Show


Rachel Guppenberger was awarded the $300 Virgnia Mumford Scholarship.

Rachel's paintings and ceramics were displaced at the 2011 BSA Spring Show.

Rachel, age 19, daughter of Mr. Peter Guppenberger and Mrs. Patrica Cargill, has recieved the "Overall Greatest in Art Studies" at arecent Art Shaw held at the Genesee Community College. She is a graduate oh Batavia High School in 2010, she is in her Freshman year at GCC.

The most recent art show she participated in was last year at the Batavia Richmond Memorial Library. Her interest started early and blossomed in the Junior year of High School. She has the creative skills of her mother. Because of the feedback and interest of her father she worked hard to sharpen her artistic abilities. Her main interest is abstract and landscapes, but plans to explore other fields of art as well.

Ms. Heather Jones, her art instructor and Mrs. Moe Dugan, her ceramice instructor at GCC have greatly encouraged her in painting and to expand her skills by introducing her to ceramics which she plans to persue in the future.


The Batavia Society of Artist held their 2011 Spring Show at the Richmond Memorial Library in Batavia, New York, from Dec. 7, 2011 to Dec. 27, 2011.

The judge for the show was Corina Rogge, Ph.D.from Buffalo NY.

Corina (Cory) is currently the Andrew W. Mellon Assistant Professor in Conservation Science. She holds A B.A. from Bryn Mawr College, a Ph.D. in chemistry from Yale University, and a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and the University of Texas Health Sciences at Houston. Prior to joining the Buffalo State College faculty, she was Wiess Instuructor of Chemistry at Rice University. Her research interests historical photographic techniques, bioremediation of art and Egyptology. In addition to analyzing art materials, she also occasionally indulges in creating art and is a practitioner of the spontaneous style of Chinese ink painting.
