2009 Spring Show

Molly McQuillen being awarded the $300 Virgnia Mumford Scholarship by Mr. Michael Mumford and the Batavia Society of Artists.

Molly is a freshman art student at Genesee Community College and a graduate of Le Roy Central School. She hopes to become a high school art teacher like her mentor at Le Roy Central School, Ieon Koukides. Molly was nominated for the scholarship by her GCC professors, Moi Dugan and Heather Jones.

Molly's paintings were displaced at the 2009 BSA Spring Show.

The Sunflower Painting: I love drawing flowers, they're my favorite thing to use in a painting. I liked the deep, rich, colors in the sunflowers, and the dark red background makes the painting feel warm.

Janis Joplin: This painting is full of spirit and energy like Janis. I chose gray tones to make it feel like it's history. The lyrics are what made her so famous, which is why I included them in the background. This painting was painted and given to my sister.

Interior Exterior Flowers: This painting was almost finished as something completely different. I stopped, and scrapped it because I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I should have. The colors in these two flowers really pop. The bright yellow next to the deep red draws everything together. Although they are simple flowers, the colors make the painting.
